Book our flagship training programme
Foundations in Equitable Design
and build a fairer, more inclusive technology industry.
Technology has immense potential to transform our lives, but it often reinforces existing inequalities. This training is about changing that. Together, we’ll explore how to build more inclusive, ethical and equitable cultures and systems to transform technology products and services and much more.
TRAINING CAN BE DELIVERED ONLINE OR IN PERSON - PLEASE ENQUIRE FOR RATES:
What you’ll learn:
We’ll start by looking at what’s missing from traditional design methods. Through open discussions and hands-on exercises, we’ll cover:
The biases and barriers baked into the tech industry - and how to identify and challenge them.
Key equity and inclusion concepts, like privilege, belonging and systemic oppression.
Practical critical thinking and design tools to rethink how we approach technical R&D and innovation.
What to expect:
This isn’t a lecture, it’s an opportunity to reflect, share and apply what you learn to your work. The session is about half presentation and discussion and half practical design exercises, so you’ll leave not just with ideas, but with tangible methods to take back to your projects.
Who this is for:
If you work in emerging technology and care about creating a fairer, more inclusive world, this training is for you. Whether you’re in academia, industry, government, or a non-profit, you’ll find tools and approaches to make meaningful changes.
Why join us:
The session is led by Leah Kurta, Clarice Hilton and Ruth Eliot, who bring years of experience working at the intersection of technology, inclusion and social change. Their research and real-world projects focus on breaking down barriers and creating space for marginalised voices. As practitioners they centre non-judgemental listening, compassion and accountability.
If you want to rethink the systems we build and the futures we shape get in touch to book this training with your team.
Testimonials
‘…Ida took into consideration the backgrounds of our cohort and tailored the training to fit the scope of the cohort's R&D projects. They covered themes and lessons that were applicable to both academic staff and members of industry, with multiple participants realising new ways to approach their project after reporting they had previously thought they had exhausted EDI practices. These realisations and open-minded thinking were made possible by the session's hosts making the training session a comfortable, safe space for the group to share. As a participant myself, I left the sessions with tangible actions I could take to the rest of my team to improve our design practices, along with useful resources to apply to future work.’

‘The diversity training that I attended with the Ida XR network was not only thought provoking but very insightful. The team leading the training created a safe space to explore the challenges of diverse practice within digital platforms. From this training I have been able to transfer the skills into my own research project. I really recommend completing this training with Ida XR.’
— Mollie Gibb, Training Participant
‘Ida delivered a workshop exploring non-binary and trans identities in digital spaces to staff, students and members of the Centre for Creative Technologies community at the University of Galway in November 2024. This was one of the most well-received events that we have hosted at the Centre. Leah and Maggie created a safe and supportive environment within which participants were invited to explore and interrogate the representation of non-binary and trans identity in immersive content. The workshop has had a significant impact on how the Centre conceives and structures its learning environment and testimonial from participants reveals its ongoing impact in their own creative and educational practices.’
